Pet Portrait Image Guidelines

At The Pawject, we believe every portrait should capture the heart and soul of your pet. Our artists can create something special from almost any photo, but following these simple tips will help us bring out your pet’s personality, charm, and spirit in the most authentic way.

Helpful Tips for the Best Pet Portrait

  • Good lighting is key: Take your photo in natural daylight or a bright room. Clear, even lighting makes your pet’s face look sharp and ensures the best portrait results.
  • Show the full face: Your pet’s face and neck should be visible — no heavy shadows, no blur, and not too close to the camera.
  • Keep everything in frame: Please avoid cropping too tightly. Make sure your pet’s entire face (and ideally their neck) is in the shot.
  • Skip the filters: Unedited photos work best. Filters and effects can distort the natural colors and details of fur.
  • Eye-level perspective: Try to photograph your pet at eye level, looking at the camera. This helps us capture their true personality and expression.
  • Accessories & outfits: Collars, tags, leashes, or outfits shown in the photo will appear in your portrait. If you’d prefer these left out, just mention it in your order notes.
  • Photo quality matters: A clear photo taken with a smartphone or camera in good lighting will give us the perfect starting point.
